Haining is a city in Zhejiang province in China. It has a population of over 100,000 people. Haining is famous for its leather industry and spectacular tide in the QianTang River. Haining, is located in the north of Zhejiang Province and the Southern part of Hangzhou-Jiaxing-Huzhou flatlands, facing the Qiantang River in the south and to the east of Hangzhou. It is 61.5 kilometres away from Haining to Hangzhou, the provincial capital of Zhejiang, and 125 kilometres to Shanghai.
The world-famous Haining tides: there are only two gushing tides nature phenomena in the world. One is in the mouth of the Amazon River in South America, the other in Haining on the north bank of the Qiantang River. Best day to view these tides are from 1st to fifth, fifteenth to twentieth of every lunar month .You can view the tides in 120 days a year. Every 18th day of the 8th lunar month, is the day of 'viewing tides' in Chinese custom.
Lying in the monsoon area of the subtropical zone, Haining has favourable natural conditions. The weather is mild and damp with affluent rainfall, with four distinct seasons and sufficient sunshine. The average temperature of the year is around 16 C. The frost-free period lasts about 230 days. Annual precipitation is about 1,180mm, and 60 percent of the yearly rainfall is received between May and September. Usually the flood season is divided into the spring rainy season, the plum rainy season and the autumn rainy season.
Haining transportation is rather convenient as the Shanghai-Hangzhou railway runs through the whole city, and the Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo Expressway passes through the city. There is also a crisscross network of navigable waterways connecting to Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.
