Heshan is a county-level city of Si Yi prefecture administered from Jiangmen city in the southern part of Guangdong province of the People's Republic of China, Heshan City sits on the right bank of the Xijiang River, 70 km north of Jiangmen. It became a city in 1993, now with a population of 349 000. . Heshan is currently located centrally to one of China's largest furniture producing areas, within approximately 10% of the world’s furniture being produced on its outskirts. It is one of the farming bases in Guangdong, and pig breeding is a booming business. Its wool blankets and garments are also popular in China.

Heshan Harbour is open to the outside world. Local scenic spots are Beihu Lake, Nanshan Hill, Heshan Art Pavilion and the Ruins of Gulao Pier on the Xijiang River.

The temperature ranges is from 0 degree C to 37.5 degree C in a year. The average temperature is 21.7 degree C. The mean annual rainfall is 1,700mm and the annual vaporization volume is 1,600mm.

Heshan City is located in the Pearl River Delta, bordering on Xijiang River, adjacent to Hong Kong and Macau, and is within the neighbourhood of Guangzhou and Foshan city has good transportation links with its waterway, road, and aviation. It takes 50 minutes to Guangzhou by road and 2.5 hours to Hong Kong by ferry. Heshan Port can berth cargo ships with capacity of 3000 tons, and it is directly connected to every corner of the world. The National Highway G325 and Guangzhou-Yangjiang Expressway, run through the whole city, and they are connected to Jiangmen-Heshan Expressway, Jiangmen -Zhaoqing Highway and the Zhaoqing-Zhuhai Expressway, which is now under planning. The city is 60km from Guangzhou, 180km from Shenzhen, 130km from Zhuhai, 40km from Foshan, 20km from Jiangmen. The average driving speed reaches 70km/h.

The Heshan Port is a state's Class-A port, with shipping and land-carriage services. The port is located on Xijiang River and near Highway G325. It is 5 kilometres from downtown of Heshan; the port is near Guangzhou-Zhanjiang Highway, Nanhai City, Shunde City, Gaoming City and Jiangmen City. It is 70 kilometres from Gaungzhou by road, 40 kilometres from Foshan, 33 kilometres from Jiangmen. It is 93 miles from Hong Kong, 63 miles from Macau. Zhaoqing City and Wuzhou City of Guangxi could be reached along Xijiang up. Heshan Port can berth cargo ships with capacity of 3000 tons, with passenger, cargo and container handling, the annual import and export cargos 2 million tons, standard containers 80 thousand. And there are regular high-speed luxury passenger-ships and cargo ships go between Heshan and Hong Kong. It is 93 miles from Hong Kong, taking only two and a half hours. The planning Guangzhou - Zhuhai Railway would have a station in Heshan.
