Jiangmen is a prefecture-level city in Guangdong province in southern China with a population of about 3.8 million. The city is located on the lower reaches of the Xijiang or West River, in the west of the Pearl River Delta in the south middle of Guangdong Province. It faces the South China Sea in the south and is 100 km away from Guangzhou and Zhuhai by highway. Jiangmen city has an area of 9,260 km˛, about one quarter the size of Pearl River Delta.
Making use of the Jiangmen Port facilities, Chu Kong Passenger Transport (CKS) connects Jiangmen to Hong Kong (95 nautical miles) with high-speed ferry services that take about 2.5 hours, one way. When compared to the sea transport, the development of Jiangmen's land transport is relatively weak. However, the city retains a key route connection between the southwest regions of Guangdong Province, also even the Guangxi Province, and Guangzhou. It is a city of prefecture level governing the three districts of Xinhui, Pengjiang and Jianghai and four cities of county level: Taishan, Kaiping, Enping and Heshan (short for “five counties”). Situated at the south of Guangdong province, China, west of the Pearl River Delta, Jiangmen is adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao, connecting with Zhongshan and Zhuhai in the east, Yangjiang in the west, Foshan in the north and face South China Sea in the south.
Standing at low latitude, subtropical zone, the city enjoys a maritime monsoon climate featuring warm and humid weather. Its temperature during a year varies slightly, at an average value of 22C. April to September is the flood season collecting eighty percent of the rainfall of the whole year. Typhoon may frequently affect Jiangmen during July to September. Visitors should avoid going there during the flood season and the period typhoon frequently occurs.
Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport has opened the Airport Express that greatly shortens the trip to the airport to circa 110 minutes. Visitors can check in ahead of time in the airport terminal established by the Baiyun Airport in Jiangmen City. In addition, the completion of the Jiangmen-Zhuhai Expressway makes the journey to Zhuhai Airport reduce from previous two hours to one hour. All these greatly facilitate the transport getting in and out of Jiangmen. The Jiangmen to Hong Kong and Macau ferry terminal lies in the Jiangmen Hi-tech Development Zone. Every day, there are three ships to Hong Kong and one to Macau.
