FIND CHINA introduces Jiayuguan

Jiayuguan, a recently developing industrial city of iron-steel production, is located in the middle of Hexi Corridor, Gansu.

Jianyuguan is rich in tourist resources and there are many renowned places of historic interest and scenic beauty, namely, the Jiayuguan Pass the other attractions include. First Peacon Tower, Overhanging Great Wall, Heishan rock carvings, brick-painted graves of Wei and Jin periods as well as Qiyi Glacier and other natural scenes. The city lies in the middle section of the Hexi Corridor. It took its name from the Jiayuguan Pass, the western terminus of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall, on its outskirts. Covering an area of 1,298 square kilometres, Jiayuguan City is situated at the narrowest point of the western section of the Hexi Corridor bounded by the Qilian Mountains on the south, the Mazong (Horse's Mane) Mountains on the north, the Jiuquan Basin on the east, and the Gobi desert on the north.

Jiayuguan has an arid climate. The average annual temperature is 7.7C. Sunshine here is strong and there is a wide difference in temperature between the day and night.

Jiayuguan Airport is located in the city's northeast, 12 km from the city. Airlines to Dunhuang City, Lanzhou City, Urumchi City and Xi'an City are available. The Lanzhou to Xinjiang Railway and the Gansu to Xinjiang Railway cross the city. The Jiayuguan Railway Station is an important one in the Lanzhou to Xinjiang Railway. It is at the Yingbing Road, about 5 km from the downtown area of the city. There are nine passenger trains passing through the city, which can transit you to Urumuchi city, Lanzhou city, Beijing city, Shanghai city, Zhengzhou city, Chengdu city and Xi'an city. Besides these cities in China, the trains, going through the Europe-Asia Continental Bridge and passing the Alashan Pass in Xinjiang, can take you further, to Russia and other northern European countries. The daily train to Lanzhou City is very convenient, starting off in the evening and arriving at Lanzhou in the morning. The 312 National Highway, linking Lanzhou in the east and Urumchi in the west, goes across the district of Jiayuguan City. The road is wide with even road surface. The total distance of highways within the district is 452 km. There are highways extending northwards to the port to Mongol and southwards to Gulmud City in Qinghai Province. To Jiuquan City, it takes only half an hour by bus; and to Dunhuang City, it takes six hours and a half.
